Keene, N.H. – The Thomas College men's soccer team bowed out of the 2019 NCAA Tournament after a 6-1 First Round loss to No. 1 Amherst on Saturday afternoon at Keene State College.
The Mammoths opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Dane Lind poked one home from close range to make it 1-0. German Giammattei doubled the lead in the 31st minute with his 21st of the season, and Sebastian Derby made it 3-0 with a volley in the 39th.
Thomas broke up the shutout in the 70th minute when Avian Girard (Castries, St. Lucia) chipped the ball over the Amherst goalie to make it 3-1.
Amherst made it 4-1 when Derby slammed in the rebound after Ignacio Cubeddu had hit the post. Declan Sung scored a few minutes later for a 5-1 lead. Will Dunne rounded out the scoring with less than two minutes remaining to make it a 6-1 final.
Bernie White made two saves for the Mammoths in the win. John Villanueva (Gray, Maine) made eight stops for the Terriers.
Top-ranked Amherst (14-1-2) moves on to the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship while the season concludes for Thomas (10-9-1).
